Travel Itinerary
Day 1 - A day tour to visit an animal and spectacular Kuang Si waterfalls with Bear Rescue Centre.
Our experienced guide will pick you up from your accommodation. Pick up will be between 8:00am and 8:30am depending on season, and how many people we are collecting on the day. From here, we will visit the Hmong tribal Centre, where we will learn about the culture and traditional of Laos Hmong people. See traditional crafts first hand, take part in practical demonstrations, or see if you can bag yourself an authentic souvenir.
Afterwards we will visit the local dairy farm, where our tour gets us up close to the first of our magnificent Laotian animals, the Asian water buffalos. See how the local farmers tend to animals, learn of the incredible impact this project has for the local agricultural community, and experience for yourself a working dairy farm, Laos style! Try your hand at milking a buffalo, feed the baby calves (unfortunately not aways available if there aren’t any calves at the time), and sample some of the unique buffalo milk ice cream. If you are lucky there might even be some freshly made cheese available for purchase!
Our tour then continues on to visit the majestic Asian Elephants. Here we will have the amazing opportunity to hand feed these incredible animals. Learn how visits like ours are helping to change outdated practices and helping to keep the elephants that are here safe from cruelties such as those that some of these animals unfortunately faced in their former years.
We will then head off to the truly spectacular Kuang Si waterfall system, where we will stop for lunch. Pick your meal at a local restaurant, choose from the delicious selection available on the day (western options also usually available, drinks included). After lunch we will enter the start of the waterfall complex, first visiting the critically endangered sun bears at the Bear Rescue Centre, (as featured on BBC television “Bear’s About the House”). With only around 2000 still left in the wild, most of animals here where former victims of poaching and the illegal medicine trade.
Our tour continues through the beautiful jungle landscape following cascading waterfalls, as they meander through the luscious green jungle. Forming seemingly endless pools of crystal-clear blue water, it’s the perfect location for an idyllic swim in this picturesque rainforest paradise. (Dip your toes in at the right spot and your might think you’ re at the spa with the tiny fish nibbling at your toes). If you don’t feel like getting wet, there’s still plenty to explore as we make our way up to the base of the main waterfall. This postcard perfect location really is a tour highlight and must be seen when visiting Luang Prabang! It’s an unforgettable experience you really must see to believe.
After the option of swimming or exploring the area, there’s time to dry off and change before we head back to central Luang Prabang for the final part of our adventure. Back in Luang Prabang we will head straight to Phou Si Mountain and begin our assent of the 328 steps to the Pagoda, in time to see the spectacular sunset view overlooking the city.
Our tour will conclude here, and you can then descend the mountain in your own time to join the bustling night market. If required, our guide will be able to point you in the right direction to navigate central Luang Prabang, can recommend local bars and restaurants, or help you find transport back to your accommodation.
